1. Introduction

Welcome to WaveLite v3.0.0 — a lightweight, peer-to-peer messaging application. It connects two browsers directly using WebRTC, so there are no accounts, no registration, and no central message server. A Cloudflare-based signaling service is used only to help the two peers find each other by exchanging connection details (SDP); once connected, all messages and files flow directly between the two devices.

2. Creating Your Profile

Open Profile

Open Profile from the home screen or the menu.

Enter Your Details

Set a display Name and a Connection Key (at least 3 characters, no spaces). Your profile is saved on your device automatically.

3. Connecting to Another User

Agree on a Connection Key

You and your peer must use the same Connection Key to pair with each other.

Press Ready

Both users press the Ready button. WaveLite creates a WebRTC offer and exchanges it with the signaling service.

Connected Automatically

When the pair matches, the connection establishes automatically and the Chat Window opens. No manual reconnection is needed.

Cancel Connection

During a search you can press Cancel to stop looking for a peer and return to the Ready screen.

4. Chat Window

The Chat Window opens automatically once the connection is established. It shows:

  • Your peer's avatar, name, and live Online/Offline status in the header.
  • A message area where received files and images can be previewed.
  • A message input bar with a + button that opens the attachment menu.
  • Optional header controls (three-dot menu and Secure Mode button) that can be shown through Developer Options.

5. Sending

Tap the + button in the message bar to open the attachment menu. Everything is sent directly over the peer-to-peer connection.

  • Text — type a message and press send.
  • Images — choose photos from your device.
  • Videos — share video files.
  • Audio — share audio files.
  • Documents — share any document file.
  • Camera — capture and send a photo directly.
  • Voice Recording — record and send a voice message.
  • Video Recording — record and send a short video.
  • Location — share your current location with an embedded map preview.

Tap any image in the chat to view it full-size with an image preview.

6. Secure Mode

Secure Mode encrypts text messages only. When enabled (via the shield toggle in the Chat Window header), text messages are encrypted before being sent over the connection. Files and other media are sent as-is and are not protected by Secure Mode.

7. Settings

Open Settings from the menu to customize your experience:

  • Appearance — choose your accent color and reset the theme.
  • Notifications — get browser notifications when a peer tries to connect while this tab is in the background.
  • Connection — adjust the search timeout (30–300 seconds).
  • Defaults — restore default settings.

8. Profile

Your Name and Connection Key are stored on your device. To change them, open Profile from the home screen or the menu, update the fields, and save.

9. Developer Options

Developer Options add advanced customization intended for technical users. Tap the WaveLite logo on the home screen three times to enable Developer Mode, then open Developer from the menu. Options include:

  • STUN/TURN configuration — add custom STUN servers or a TURN relay for restrictive networks.
  • Chat header customization — status indicator size, style, and color, plus custom Online/Offline text.
  • Chat header appearance — background color and which header controls are shown.
  • Homepage customization — logo icon, accent and secondary colors, and the Ready button animation.
  • AI Chat — optionally enable the AI Assistant and set a Gemini API key (disabled by default).
  • Live previews — see changes instantly before applying them.

10. Tips

  • Use the same Connection Key on both devices for a reliable pairing.
  • Keep the app tab open while searching for a peer.
  • Both users should press Ready at around the same time.
  • Use the Refresh option to return to the home screen.
  • Enable Secure Mode for text-sensitive conversations.

11. Privacy

  • No accounts and no registration — your identity is just a name and a key you choose.
  • No central message server — messages and files travel directly between the two browsers.
  • The Cloudflare-based signaling service handles only the SDP handshake, never your content.
  • Secure Mode encrypts text messages to add an extra layer of protection.

12. Troubleshooting

  • Unable to connect — Confirm both users have the same Connection Key and have pressed Ready. Check your network or firewall; on restrictive networks a TURN server may be required (Developer Options, for advanced users).
  • Connection timeout — The search ends after the configured timeout (Settings → Connection → Search Timeout). Both peers need to be online at the same time.
  • Secure Mode — Secure Mode protects text messages only; files and other media are not encrypted.
  • Notification permissions — Browser notifications require permission. Enable them in Settings → Notifications and grant permission in your browser.
  • Browser compatibility — WaveLite relies on WebRTC and modern browser features. Use an up-to-date browser such as the latest Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari.
